Sunday April 14th: Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion

St. Francis Parish | April 14, 2019, 1:25 am | Reflections

In today’s Gospel from Luke 22:33-60, Jesus says to Peter, “before the cock crows this day, you will deny three times that you know me.” Despite Peter’s disbelief, we know that Jesus’ prophecy comes true as Peter does in fact deny Him three times.

It is difficult to imagine the feelings and emotion that within mere hours would drive a man from swearing to die for Jesus to a point of having such fear that he would ultimately deny even knowing Him. In fact, most of us think we would never have denied Jesus in that situation. Despite this, on a regular basis, we deny Jesus in so many ways without the fear of imminent physical harm or death. Each time we choose to sin, we deny Jesus in our hearts. Each time we choose our will over God’s will, we deny God in our lives.

As we near the end of our Lenten journey and look forward to celebrating Christ’s triumph, let us discern what we can do to allow God to take control of our lives. Let us pray ceaselessly, “Less of us, more of Him”. Amen!
